"A microsensing story beyond gravity"

LMTS Space Center EPFL GGES

Welcome !

Welcome to the GGES Team website. This site is designed to help you keep track of the progress on the development of the GGES experiment. You will find in the experiment part some basic information on the project, arranged in a « Frequently Asked Questions » style.

In the frame of the REXUS/BEXUS project and with the support of the EPFL Space Center and LMTS, a team of EPFL students will test a new and ambitious sensor on a sounding rocket, launched in Sweden.

Following the call of proposals in September 2010, our project has passed a first selection. For the second one, five members of our team went to ESTEC, near Amsterdam. After three days of presentations, a committee of experts has chosen our project, with ESA's support. This certainty of our project flying allowed us to propose new Master and semester projects to other students from different study fields. Since the final selection, students from Microtechnique, Electrical Engineering, Mechanics, Materials and Physics are part of the team.

The REXUS/BEXUS programme is realised under a bilateral Agency Agreement between the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and the Swedish National Space Board (SNSB). The Swedish share of the payload has been made available to students from other European countries through a collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA).

EuroLaunch, a cooperation between the Esrange Space Center of the Swedish Space Corporation (SSC) and the Mobile Rocket Base (MORABA) of DLR, is responsible for the campaign management and operations of the launch vehicles. Experts from ESA, SSC and DLR provide technical support to the student teams throughout the project.
